About Katie:

Welcome to Pieces of Cake! My name is Katie and I am a 20-something living in Charlotte, NC. I have moved around and lived many places during my 24 years.

I was born and raised in Michigan, and my family moved to NC when I was 11. Since then I have lived in South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and now back in NC! I am happy to call North Carolina home once again.


As you can see, moving has been a big part of my life. I am the girl who clung to her mattress in her childhood bedroom and told her parents she was moving in to her best friend's basement when she was 11. Needless to say, moving has gotten a little easier each time. All of this moving around has certainly help make me the person that I am today. While change can still be hard for me, I have learned to handle all of the changes that surround me on a regular basis!

I have the best family and friends that a girl could ask for! While I wish I could see them more often, I am thankful for all of the technology in my life that allows me to connect with them on a daily basis.


My Blog:

Pieces of Cake is a blog about my experiences. Weight loss, exercising, personal life, family, and friends. It started out as Katie's Pirate Booty in 2009, when I was venturing off to graduate school. Things certainly have changed since then, and I wanted to give my blog more of a 'grown-up' feel, since I really am out in the real world now. No turning back!


This is a place for me to document my adventures and share them with the blog world! My dad's nickname for me is "Cake" - somehow Katie lost a syllable! Anyway, I wanted to name my blog after this affectionate nickname. I want to share pieces of me with all of you! And here you have it: Pieces of Cake! Also, I love food. Plain and simple. It's just a perfect name!

My purpose:

After college, I gained quite a bit of weight. I began my journey to lose it, and am documenting some of the victories and struggles along the way. I love to cook healthy and nutritious meals, and enjoy sharing my recipes to inspire all of you. As a part of my journey, I wanted to make exercise a priority in my life as a part of weight loss, but also to keep my heart and body healthy. In August 2011, I started running, and this has become a very important part of my routine.


Pieces of Cake is my way of sharing my life and journey with the blog world. I do my best to live a healthy lifestyle and this blog keeps me accountable!
